AirSelfie chooses Clustin for its global omnichannel project

AirSelfie, the flying camera, the Italian minidrone, the drone for taking selfies has chosen Clustin to manage its worldwide eBusiness (what ever description you choose, it’s being talked about all over the world). And right from the initial stages it is showing impressive rates of growth.


In just 72 hours the Italian project reached its objective on Kickstarter, the biggest independent worldwide crowd-funding platform for creative projects. Airselfie’s “soft launch” on the platform helped the team to understand how the “tech addicted” would react to the project. The result? 2.762 micro-investors from 81 countries worldwide in just a few hours.

Airselfie has become a global phenomenon and the new object of desire.”


On social networks, the phenomenon has started conversations all over the world with the knock on effect that opinion groups that have feverishly propagated viral discussions about Airselfie - right from the pre-order phase.
AirSelfie has therefore started a detailed action plan for its Go To Market strategy with a clear idea about how to implement the worldwide distribution project: involving a limited number of strategic partners with clearly mapped technology and bringing specific experience in processes and management.  This choice has brought in 77Agency, the digital agency specialized in “new media marketing” and today Clustin, the Italian system integrator with operating subsidiaries in Italy and the United Kingdom.


Clustin is involved in various aspects of the AirSelfie project, and more specifically has the role of data “concentrator” and technical operator for all the eCommerce operations.
From a technological and business model point of view the architecture AirSelfie and Clustin have put together is characterised by strong scalability, including the ability to respond to aggressive sales volumes: from the 5,000 pre-orders before market launch to the over 6 million sales forecast in 2019 – plus a continually evolving product-mix. In fact it is in line with market trends for mobile devices.


So, Clustin has implemented an End-to-End eCommerce project using an agile model to deliver an omnichannel strategy designed for companies with high growth rates and multiple business models.
The information concentrator, based on Oracle technology, uses the NetSuite OneWorld management system and development framework.
Netsuite’s Cloud ERP collects the information needed to manage the licensing system for the AirSelfie devices and therefore details of the end user, and this determines “customer ownership” (they are activated ‘on the fly’ using an App which also acts as a simple pilot control).


NetSuite is also the concentrator for collecting orders from multiple global marketplaces as well as AirSelfie’s Online Store.
And in this case too, Clustin has set up an automatic connection with over 200 global digital channels in all regions of the world (Marketplaces such as  Amazon, Sears, Aliexpress, Rakuten, Newegg, eBay, Tmall as well as WebStores such as WooCommerce together with 77Agency, Magento, DemandWare, Shopify and multiple price comparison engines, search engines and social networks).


“Right from the pre-order phase, we set up a working group with the team from Clustin. The most important task was to transform an object of desire into an executive plan on a global scale. We therefore organised the various stages of the project, choosing the areas of the world and the digital channels, designing the order-taking system, interaction with the production unit and management of accounting and administrative aspects.” states Stefano Cabella, AirSelfie’s CEO. “In selecting the partner and technology, from the very start we planned for an infrastructure that would allow us to manage not just the current phase, but that would guarantee the speed and scalability needed for the next stages of our development plan.


AirSelfie therefore has a “cockpit” at its disposal, a collection of dashboards, which thanks to a functional layer, lets its managers control and take decisions that have a global impact with just a few simple clicks.
From an accounting and administrative point of view, the same system guarantees compliance in over 200 countries involved in the business transactions and for tax calculation and reporting in over 100 countries - not least of all in Italy thanks to the Clustin IAL (Italian Accounting Localisation ) Bundle for NetSuite.

Clustin’s multi-company management with NetSuite OneWorld has therefore been set up to manage sales from both AirSelfie’s direct channels and from partnerships.
Established, local partners have been brought in, for either strategic reasons or due to market restrictions, like in the case of Clustin’s partner BMDC China, involved in Asia and certain specific markets.

Thanks to Clustin, an End-to-End eCommerce service has been implemented using a “blitzscaling” approach, at an agreed speed and in stages, both in terms of incurring costs  and in relation to the computing power and integrity between systems.
Using more technical language, we could use well-known terms such as “big data”, “hybrid cloud”, “hyperlocal”, “Digital Channels” and other acronyms that are already part of the common vocabulary.
